June 1944 Warspite supported the Normandy Landings at Sword and Gold Beaches. On route to Rosyth she set off a magnetic mine, causing heavy damage. At Rosyth she was partial repaired and went back to bombardment duties.

She bombarded Brest, Le Havre and Walcheren, and provided support for assault troops, in what was to be the last time she fired her guns. Warspite was placed in Category C Reserve on 1 February 1945. There were pleas to retain Warspite as a museum ship, but were ignored and she was sold for scrap in 1947.

On the way to her scrapyard, after already experiencing trouble on the journey to the breakers due to a storm, she broke free of her anchor, subsequently running hard aground in Prussia Cove and she was towed to St. Michael's Mount, where the ship had to be scrapped in situ over the next few years

So whilst i was in the Masonic Hall getting some shots of the mess that is Cornmarket i looked down towards High Street and saw this queue. Asking the person with me if she knew what the craic was she told me that a woman from Woodvale had gone into the Jewellers to sell some scrap gold on Thursday. Instead of the ?140 she was expecting she got a whooping ?1400( someone messed up with their decimal points). So going back home and telling a few folk they all appeared yesterday morning with gold to sell.....all the people in the queue were from Woodvale...the next two photographs show the signs that were posted by the shop.
This was taken around 10.30 in the morning. This photograph is a lil bit too messy for my liking....it seems very cluttered but there is alot of info in here anyways and when i went down to talk to the people in the queue........no photos and ya don't argue with yon Woodvale ones so this will have to do!!
