The Trial

The story of The Trial's publication is almost as fascinating as the novel itself. Kafka intended his parable of alienation in a mysterious bureaucracy to be burned, along with the rest of his diaries and manuscripts, after his death in 1924. Yet his friend Max Brod pressed forward to prepare The Trial and the rest of his papers for publication.

A terrifying psychological trip into the life of one Joseph K., an ordinary man who wakes up one day to find himself accused of a crime he did not commit, a crime whose nature is never revealed to him. Once arrested, he is released, but must report to court on a regular basis--an event that proves maddening, as nothing is ever resolved. As he grows more uncertain of his fate, his personal life--including work at a bank and his relations with his landlady and a young woman who lives next door--becomes increasingly unpredictable. As K. tries to gain control, he succeeds only in accelerating his own excruciating downward spiral.

Kenny Belaey (Eeklo, 26 januari 1983) is een Belgische trialbiker die in 2006 voor de achtste maal wereldkampioen werd in zijn discipline. Ook heeft hij een wereldrecord gevestigd.

De drieentwintigjarige Belg en Aalternaar wordt ook wel eens “The Magician” genoemd en won al het respect van persoonlijk idool en trial legende Hans Rey. Kenny begon met trial bike op zijn negende. Vader Ronny is een oude bekende uit de motortrial en gaf de jonge Kenny een ‘custom made’ MTB om te oefenen. Kenny voerde zijn wedstrijden eerst op met 20’ banden, later schakelde hij over naar bikes met 26” banden. Op vijftienjarige leeftijd haalde hij zijn eerste wereldtitel binnen bij de cadetten. Op de 26 duim trialfiets wordt hij ook Belgisch kampioen en tweede op de Europese kampioenschappen. In 2002 rijdt Kenny voor het eerst mee met de elite en wordt meteen wereldkampioen. Dat jaar wordt hij als eerste trialrider ooit opgenomen in een team voor professionals (toen nog) “Vlaanderen - t-interim - Eddy Merckx” en tekent hij een contract bij Red Bull. Kenny trainde twee jaar lang samen met Paul Ponnet en traint gemiddeld vier uur per dag.
