Vintage 16 Piece China Set The Crown China Company Ohio 1950s with Pink and Yellow Magnolias and Green Stems
This china set is in PRISITNE condition. There are no chips, cracks or even crazing which is common in something from the 50’s. They feature a different size flower depending on the size of the plate or bowl and are a lovely pink with yellow and green leaves. I think the flower may be a magnolia. The only blemish I can see is from the creation process where some of the flower images may have moved slightly under the glaze. This china doesn’t even appear to have ever been used. There are no scrapes from a knifes or silverware, no scuffs or wear at all!!! Each plate has a gold mark on the back with “The Crown China Company Minerva, OH” and “National Brotherhood Operative Potters” and either the number 77 or 55 depending on the size.

1920's Hand Painted Moriyama Lusterware Dessert Sandwich Plates. Total Elegance in Gold and Green
lusterware exceptionally crafted and gorgeous hand painted plates dating 1926-1929 from the Japanese Moriyama Pottery. Plates feature raised gold detailing thru out the pink and blue floral design. They measure 7 1/4" across and feature a cream colored base surrounded by co ordinate raised filigree work thru ought the dark and light green glaze. These plates are in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. There is a bit of wear to the gold on the pieces which can be expected with their age. Unbelievable attention to detail on these pieces. Elegance, excellent craftsmanship and beauty all combined. All plates are marked with the Moriyama pottery mark off the period.
Moriyama Pottery was located in MoriMachi in Shizuoka prefecture. Moriyama Pottery was established in 1911 by Hidekichi Nakamura who was taught pottery making by Seison Suzuki

Physical Graffiti - Paris
When I was last in New York the one location I had to visit was 96 and 98 St. Mark's Place, in the East Village, a tenement block that featured on my favorite and Led Zeppelin's biggest album Physical Graffiti. It got me thinking that I will find a building in Paris and apply a similar treatment, removing a floor to accommodate the square format of the record album. A two frame joiner made to look straight on, an you spot the join and additions?
This building the Syndicat de l'epicerie francaise rue du Renard, close to the Centre Pompidou. The building was designed by architects Raymond Barbaud and Edouard Bauhain in 1901. It was built to host the French Union of Grocery shops. You can see that the lower floors of the building were for the Union, whereas the upper ones were for private residents. The building no longer hosts the Grocery Shops Union, but a Theater, Theatre du Renard.

Panorama - The Church of St. Anne and the Church of St. Francis and St. Bernardine

The Church of St. Francis and St. Bernardine is one of the largest gothic sacral buildings in Vilnius. It composes a unique architectural ensemble with St. Anne's Church, but it is much older and higher than the latter.
In 1469, Bernardine monks that had recently settled in Vilnius built a wooden church that was later replaced by the brick one. At the beginning of the 16th century, the church was totally reconstructed. Originally, the church was a part of the city's defensive wall, and this, in fact, explains its modest decor. Since then the loopholes under the roof in the northern facade have remained. After numerous renovations in the 16-17th centuries the church acquired renaissance and baroque style elements. The baroque decor of the altars, pulpit, organ choir and tombstones softens the strictness of the gothic lines. During the Soviet occupation the church was handed over to the Art Institute. In 1994, it was returned to the brethren of St. Francis.
Now the Bernardine Church is being restored and soon it will acquire its former beauty. But even now the splendor interior of the church enchants the visitors. The dominants of the interior are fourteen rococo style altars decorated with beautiful wooden sculptures. The church features the oldest known crucifix in Lithuania, which dates back to the 15th century. The unique mural painting decorating the walls of the naves dates back to the 16th century and combines renaissance and gothic elements. The scenes on biblical themes are decorated with inscriptions in gothic character and floral ornaments. The church is famous for the plenty of the ornate tombstones. Among them one should mention marble tombstones of Stanislaus Radziwill in the north nave (1618-1623) and Piotr Wiesiolowski in the south nave (1634).
The Bernardine monastery that is situated near the church is the oldest brick building of the entire complex. It was constructed at the end of the 15th century. The monastery soon became one of the cultural centers of the medieval Lithuania. It was famous for its rich library, containing unique manuscripts and books. In 1864, the monastery was closed and the building was reequipped to soldier's barracks. In 1919, it was handed over to the art faculty of the university, later - to the Art Institute. Now the cloister houses the Vilnius Academy of Art.
The statue in the foreground is in memory of Adam Bernard Mickiewicz which is generally regarded as the greatest Polish Romantic poet. He ranks as one of Poland's Three Bards alongside Zygmunt Krasinski and Juliusz Slowacki. Mickiewicz is also regarded as the greatest Slavic poet, alongside Alexander Pushkin, and as one of the best authors of the Romantic school.
Adam Mickiewicz is generally known as a Polish poet; but though all his major works are written in Polish, his nationality has been an object of controversy. The controversy largely stems from the fact that in the 19th century the modern concept of nationality based on ethnicity had not yet been fully developed and the term "Lithuania," as used by Mickiewicz himself, had a much broader geographic meaning than it does now. Mickiewicz had been brought up in the culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, a multicultural state that had encompassed most of what today are the separate countries of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus and Ukraine. His most famous poem, Pan Tadeusz, begins with the invocation "Oh Lithuania, my fatherland, thou art like good health". It is generally accepted that in Mickiewicz's time the term "Lithuania" still carried a strong association with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, part of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and that Mickiewicz used it in a political rather than an ethnic sense.

Built in the 12th century, the Church of Our Lady (Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk) with a spiked spire 360 feet high.
It took two centuries (13th-15th) to build the church. Among the many art treasures of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk is a beautiful Carrara marble Madonna and Child sculpture by Michelangelo.
This statue, made in 1504, was the only one of Michelangelo's works to leave Italy in his lifetime and is today one of the few that can be seen outside Italy. The Hallmark of excellence
One of the first liveries to be seen on Corgi's Neoplan Cityliner was the distinctive brown and gold of Hallmark, Luton's premier operator who used vehicles such as this as team coaches for several Premiership football clubs. N4 HMC was one of four Cityliners bought new in 1996 and this livery was incidentally the inspiration for that worn by Generation Travel's vehicles as seen earlier in my stream. This incarnation of Hallmark moved to Coleshill in 2002 and ended up as part of the Rotala empire; another operator called Hallmark is now based in Luton but I understand is not connected with the original company.

Edersee Dam

The Edersee Dam is a hydroelectric dam constructed between 1908 to 1914 across the Eder river, near the small town of Waldeck in northern Hesse, Germany, it lies at the northern edge of the Kellerwald. The dam is primarily used hydroelectric power generation and to regulate water levels for shipping on the Weser river.
In World War II, the dam was as part of Operation Chastise, destroyed by special bouncing bombs dropped by British Lancaster bombers of No. 617 Squadron RAF in the early morning of May 17, 1943, creating massive destruction and loss of life downstream. Through the breach in the dam, 70 metres (230 ft) wide and 22 metres (72 ft) deep, water emptied at the rate of 8,000 cubic metres per second (280,000 cu ft/s) into the narrow valley below, a total of about 160 hm?. A flood wave of 6–8 metres (20–26 ft) in height roared through the river valley as far as 30 kilometres (19 mi) downstream, before it diminished in the widening floodplains of the lower Eder, the Fulda and the Weser. About 70 people died[1] (some non-German sources erroneously cite[2] an early total of 749 for all foreigners killed in all POW and labor camps downriver of the Mohne dam as casualties at a supposed POW or labor camp just below the Eder Dam.)
The dam was rebuilt within months by forced labor drawn from the construction of the Atlantic Wall under the command of Organisation Todt, and the lake today is a major summertime recreational facility. Its capacity of 199,300 cubic metres (260,700 cu yd) makes it the third largest reservoir in Germany.
At low water, in late summers of dry years, the remnants of three villages (Asel, Bringhausen, and Berich), along with a bridge across the original river bed, that were submerged when the lake was filled in 1914, can be seen, and descendants of people buried in the now submerged cemeteries go to visit the graves of their ancestors.
