Under the Hood
Sorry for the lack of posts lately!
I've been kicked back to a day shift work schedule and haven't really found the time or inspiration to post any photos. I did change my workout for the new year. I've taken up a modified circuit training routine. If you're interested keep reading:
A total of three circuits are done, each circuit consists of 6 exercises. All 6 are to be done without rest.
Circuit 1, endurance and strength: lightweights + high reps
a) alternating twisting dumbbell curls - 30 reps @ 15lbs
b) skull crushers - 30 reps @ 35lbs
c) knee lifts - 20 reps @ bodyweight
d) push ups - 20 reps @ bodyweight
e) resistance band rows - 25 reps @ 140lbs
f) step ups (at least 24 inch height) with dumbbells - 15 reps @ 10lbs
drink water, 30 jumping jacks or jump rope or just run in place for 2 minutes
Circuit 2, Power, Low reps + high weights
a) concetration curls - 10 reps @ 30lbs
b) kickbacks - 10 reps @ 30 lbs
c) knee lifts - 20 reps @ bodyweight
d) dumbbell press - 15 reps @ 52.5lbs
e) dumbbell squats - 15 reps @ 40lbs
f) resistance band bent over rows - 25 reps @ 140lbs
drink water, 30 jumping jacks or jump rope, or run in place for 2 minutes
Circuit 3 (last one!)
a) barbell curl - 20 reps @ 35lbs
b) lateral raises - 20 reps @ 10lbs
c) calf raises - 20 reps @ 20lbs
d) stability ball twisting crunches - 30 reps each side
e) on armed clean and press (either with dumbbell or kettlebell) - 20 reps each side @ 20lbs
f) step ups (at least 24 inch height) - 15 reps @ 15 lbs
drink water and 30 jumping jacks...yadda yadda
So there you have it! Make sure to eat some good carbs before attempting. Afterwards eat some nice quality proteins to assure recovery of muscle. Muscle fatigue is going to happen so adjust the weights accordingly but keep the reps about the same. Circuit training is great for cardio and endurance as well as strength building if done correctly. You can knock out all three sets in 30 minutes or less. So it has high emphasis on cardio and endurance.
