NMC-Boston Signage V02A: White/Green on Black

NMC-Boston Signage V02A: White/Green on Black

Signage Board Dimensions:
Outer: 10' x 241/4" => 10' X 2'
Inner: 9'93/4" x 22" => 9.813' X 1.883'

The inner dimensions were used to frame the images shown.

Rationale for "two-line" store name: The signage is at a very high location; it is practically hidden by the front canopy when the stores are viewed from the other side of the street. The lower and much larger "Costumes" is more visible from across the street.

Colora: "White on Black" is used here to emphasize the focus of the store -- "Costumes" and related accessories.

The green color of "New Millennium" is muted by the black background but contrast nicely with the white color of the "Costumes". Together, the green "New Millennium" and more bold white of "Costumes" complements (rather than compete for attention with) each other. Also, the green color used here integrates the color used as background in the website and the walls of the store itself.

An all-white signage will appear too cramp vertically and too glaring (View NMC-Boston Signage V04: White on Black).

Aesthetics, Had the signage board been slightly narrower, the two-line signage would have been aesthetically pleasing. The focus text, cab be enlarged so much without reaching the vertical size limit. Even at the upper limit, there is still too much blank real estates on both sides of the signage.

This issue is resolved in NMC-Boston Signage vsersions V01A and V01B by adding a logo. However, the logo does not serve solely as a space filler.

Rationale for logo icon: We have plans in the future to establish branches of the store in other cities. The logo distinctly clarifies that the brick and mortar store at

January 2010 - A Hotel of the Waldorf=Astoria Collection!

The Waldorf Astoria Collection is a collection of what the Hilton Worldwide considers to be its premiere, most luxurious and most identifiable hotels and resorts.

In January 2006, Hilton Hotels, Inc, announced it would launch a luxury brand called the The Waldorf Astoria Collection, branded after the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, called the most powerful hotel name in the world.[1] Hilton Hotels declared that the new brand will create luxurious business hotels and resorts worldwide, exceeding the chain's existing luxury brand, Conrad Hotels.[2]

As of April 2007, there were 4 properties — the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, La Quinta Resort & Spa in La Quinta, California, the Waldorf=Astoria in New York and the Grand Wailea Resort & Spa in Maui, Hawaii. Later in 2007, the Qasr Al Sharq in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia was added to the portfolio. The next property to join the portfolio was the Rome Cavelieri, a rebranding and upgrading of the Cavalieri Hilton in Rome, Italy in early summer 2008. During the fall of 2008, three Florida hotels, located in Boca Raton, Key West and Naples, were also added. In July of 2009, the Dakota Mountain Lodge opened in Park City, Utah. It is the first ski resort to join the portfolio.[3]

UK - Oxford - Sheldonian detail

UK - Oxford - Sheldonian detail

Detail of the arched facade of Christopher Wrens Sheldonian Theatre.

From Wikipedia : 'Nothing is known for sure of Wren's first designs for the Sheldonian, but the finished building was a sharp, unmistakable break from the Gothic past. Wren designed the Sheldonian based on Serlio's engraving of the D-shaped Theatre of Marcellus in Rome in the first century BC.

Like any Mediterranean theatre of that time, the Theatre of Marcellus had no roof: the audience relied on a temporary awning for inclement weather. But 17th-century Oxford was not ancient Rome, and the Theatre needed a permanent roof. Yet the span of the D-shaped roof was over 70 feet (21 m). No timbers existed that were long enough to cross that distance, and Wren dismissed the obvious solution of a Gothic roof. Instead, he decided to use the "geometrical flat floor" grid developed twenty years before by Oxford professor John Wallis.'

The 2007 Report on Manufacturing Canvas and Canvas-Like Products, Awnings, Sails, Tarpaulins, and Tents from Purchased Fabrics: World Market Segmentation by City

The 2007 Report on Manufacturing Canvas and Canvas-Like Products, Awnings, Sails, Tarpaulins, and Tents from Purchased Fabrics: World Market Segmentation by City

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a “borderless world”, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "manufacturing canvas and canvas-like products, awnings, sails, tarpaulins, and tents from purchased fabrics" for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in most cities of the world. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world's cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. This report takes the broader definition and considers, therefore, a city as a part of the global market.

The 2009-2014 World Outlook for Manufacturing Canvas and Canvas-Like Products, Awnings, Sails, Tarpaulins, and Tents from Purchased Fabrics

This econometric study covers the world outlook for manufacturing canvas and canvas-like products, awnings, sails, tarpaulins, and tents from purchased fabrics across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-a-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, however, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for manufacturing canvas and canvas-like products, awnings, sails, tarpaulins, and tents from purchased fabrics. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the world's regional and national markets. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business.

Panel with censing angels 1170-1180

Panel with censing angels 1170-1180

The stained glass produced for the Collegiate Church of Saint-Etienne in Troyes during the late twelfth century represents a major transition from the Romanesque to the Gothic style. None of the panels from what was once an ambitious cycle of scenes—ranging in theme from the public life and Passion of Christ and the Dormition of the Virgin to the life of Saint Nicholas of Myra—remains in its original setting, since the church was destroyed in the wake of the French Revolution. The glass is now scattered in public and private collections in Europe and America. The Museum's panel of censing angels conforms to a window design of connected semicircles, whose overall subject was the Dormition of the Virgin. Here, the pairs of angels, seen moving away from the connected arcs, are painted with an exceptional precision, against a ground decorated with a fine pattern of rinceaux. The organic articulation of the figures and the strikingly balanced colors are analogous to effects found in both manuscript illumination and enamel work. However, it is the chevron-shaped folds of the drapery, which radiate with a metallic precision, that especially invite comparison to a group of contemporary manuscripts produced in Champagne by illuminators originally trained in northern France. Stylistic links with Mosan enamel work also demonstrate that the Troyes artist had assimilated techniques, color relationships, and figure types uncharacteristic of twelfth-century stained-glass painting.

The Eight Concepts of Bowen Theory

The Eight Concepts of Bowen Theory

"The Eight Concepts" is a clear and concise description of the basic concepts of Bowen family system theory. Beginning with the fundamental concept of the nuclear family as the emotional unit, the other concepts -- differentiation of self scale, triangles, cutoff, family projection process, multigenerational transmission process, sibling position, and emotional processes of society -- are explained as they evolve out of the fundamental concept of the emotional unit. The emphasis is clarity of presentation and purity of presentation of theory. Numerous citations to the writings of Dr. Bowen and experts who studied under Dr. Bowen are used to present the theory in as pure a form as possible in a short and easy-to-read book. The special sections in each chapter for parents, coaches and leaders bring each concept home for different roles readers bring to the book. An index is included.

Elizabeth BOWEN (1899-1973) Anglo-Irish Writer

Elizabeth BOWEN (1899-1973) Anglo-Irish Writer

Portrait of Elizabeth Bowen at Bowen's Court, Co. Cork, (c.1955, oil on canvas, 91 x 71 cm) by Patrick Hennessy RHA (1915-1980)

PATRICK HENNESSY studied art in Dundee, in Scotland, in the thirties and returned to his native Cork in 1939. He exhibited regularly in Dublin from 1941 to 1970 and also showed in Scotland. Portraits feature regularly in his early career. Later he turned more to landscape, spending several winters in north Africa and working in the West of Ireland and Cork in the summers.

His portrait of the writer Elizabeth Bowen (1899-1973) shows her standing at the head of the staircase at her family home, Bowen's Court, in north county Cork. Hennessy, whose painting style was based on a very sheer kind of illusionism, often with overtones of surrealism and magic realism, paints her as a handsome, rather severe looking woman. The cool colour palette and clarity of form are typical of much of his work.

ELIZABETH BOWEN: One the great Anglo-Irish writers of the 20th Century (by Margaret Leahy (Ireland)

Elizabeth Bowen (1899 -1973), a writer of genius, was best known for novels and short stories, but was prolific and versatile as a non-fiction writer, and as a distinguished lecturer and broadcaster. Born to Henry and Florence, both descendants of Anglo-Irish ascendancy in Ireland, Elizabeth's life was privileged, although her childhood was dogged with the difficulties of her father's psychiatric illness, and of her mother's early death, in 1911.

Elizabeth wrote a history of the Anglo-Irish in her book "Bowen's Court", a history of her home in Cork. She talks of her Irishness in her unfinished autobiography: "If you began in Ireland, Ireland remains the norm: like it or not. I never looked up Sackvill Street without pleasure, for I was told it was the widest street in the world. Just as Pheonix Park...was the largest park in the world.... These superlatives please me only too much: my earliest pride of race was attached to them". (Bowen, 1975).

Elizabeth attended schools in England, where her talent as a writer was recognized and nurtured. In 1917, her first stories were published in the gazette, Saturday Westminster, later to be reprinted as a collection entitled Encounters in 1923. During this year, Elizabeth married Alan Cameron and their marriage was to last - despite her numerous affairs - until his death in 1952. Although Elizabeth frequently visited her ancestral home in Co Cork, she became immersed in English society, befriending Virginia Woolf and other writers, and publishing several novels. The Last Septembe, her second novel deals with the demise of the "big house" in Ireland, and presents the time with historical detail and impartiality, and a great novelist's characterization. Her other novels of this period Friends and Relations and To the North brought her international recognition. Perhaps her most acclaimed work is her sixth novel, The Death of the Heart (1938), a poignant, coming-of-age story of a young woman.
The Second World War (1939-1945) reduced Elizabeth's writing output because of her involvement in the war effort. Along with themes of passion and love, her novels are shaped by war, its function and effects. After the war, her work was given due attention: in 1949 she was granted an honorary doctorate of literature from Trinity College, Dublin, and she was invited to lecture in several universities in the United States during the 1950s. She continued to write, to travel, to lecture and to broadcast throughout the 1960s, concluding her major works with the novel "Eva Trout" (1969). She battled with cancer, and died in 1973.

References to her stutter in her writing are scarce: in the autobiography. She describes how her mother, heartbroken by the decision to move to England when her father had committed himself into psychiatric care, had given her great freedom, and continues: "I was a tough child, strong as a horse - or colt. I had come out of the tensions and mystery of my father's illness, the apprehensive silences or chaotic shoutings.....with nothing more disastrous than a stammer. Not "nervous", I was demonstrative and excitable: an extrovert". Later in the same chapter, Elizabeth talks about a governess, Miss Clark: "I disliked her only when she was sarcastic, or when she picked on me about my stammer, which in her view was due largely to faults of character: over-impatience, self-importance. "You try to get too much out at the same time," she would point out. "Concentrate on one thing, draw a deep breath, they say it slowly."

Her advice may have worked: Elizabeth's way of managing her stutter did not prevent her success as a prolific writer, broadcaster, and lecturer, (My friend and neighbour, now over 90 years of age, recalls listening to her lecture in Dublin many years ago, and though aware that EB stuttered, her speaking was clear, fluent and voluble).

Naughty In Nice (A Royal Spyness Mystery)

The national bestselling author of Royal Blood whisks her heroine away to the French Riviera for fun-and danger.
Lady Georgiana Rannoch has once again been called into service by Her Majesty the Queen. This time she's sent to Nice on a secret assignment that's nothing to sneeze at-recover the Queen's stolen snuff box.
As much of an honor as it is to be trusted by Her Majesty, an even greater honor awaits Georgie in Nice-as Coco Chanel herself asks Georgie to model her latest fashion. But when a necklace belonging to the Queen is stolen on the catwalk, Georgie has to find two priceless items-and solve a murder. How's a girl to find any time to go to the casino?

Rhys Bowen and Jacqueline Winspear in Conversation

Rhys Bowen
Rhys Bowen: Jackie, you and I bonded instantly when we met, and every time we compare notes, it’s like talking with my clone. We’re both British, both expats who live five miles apart in California. We write about female sleuths in the 1930s. We seem to share a similar approach to our writing. We both feel passionately about the things we write about. So let’s start with being British expats. We’ve both lived much of our adult life in America and yet we choose to write about England. Do you think this is a nostalgia for home, or we are more comfortable writing about the place where we grew up? For me, I think it’s a little of both, especially because I choose to write about England in the past. It’s the nostalgia for cream teas, country fetes, a kinder simpler time. And I feel more comfortable being able to get under the skin of my characters, to know how they would think and react, based on my own upbringing. And yet in many ways that time we both write about mirrors what we are going through today--the desperation of a depression, the threat of extremism, the disparity between haves and have nots. It’s interesting to me that so many readers write that they identify strongly with Lady Georgie--when she’s a twenty something royal!
Jacqueline Winspear: I don’t think there’s a nostalgia for home, or for the past as such; however, the fact remains that, although I have lived here in California for over 20 years, I don’t think I would attempt to write a novel with American characters because there is something I could never touch because I was not raised here–-and when that ring of authenticity is broken in a novel, it spoils the story for the reader, so I don’t want to risk it. If anything, my work is inspired by my love of history, and more particularly, the question of what happens to ordinary people in extraordinary times. Fiction is the best way to explore that question; I like to weave the stories of ordinary people into some of the bigger events of the day, like zooming the camera in on a scene. Mystery is a great vehicle for telling such stories, given that arc through chaos to resolution.
Jacqueline Winspear
Bowen: Do you think its harder or easier to write about a place where you don’t live? I find that when I’m in England I’m a keen observer and I notice things I’d probably take for granted if I lived there. This is especially true about the class system, which is the focus of my Lady Georgie novels. I’m fascinated to find that upper class relatives and friends still see themselves as the ones who matter, still a them and us mentality.
Winspear: I think it’s easier for me to write about Britain from a geographical as well as generational distance. In California, I am not distracted by the Britain of today--there’s a clear delineation--so I am able to write about the past and immerse myself in the essence of that time. The class system is alive and well in Britain; it has changed in some respects, though you can’t change a system entrenched over centuries overnight, and I’m not sure if people would like it if it was changed. Which is great, because it gives you a lot of material for the Lady Georgie novels.
Bowen: We have both chosen to write books set in the 1930s. You approach yours from the grim reality of the lingering aftermath of war, while I focus on the bright young things, the Bertie Woosters, who still act as if nothing has changed in England. I choose to see the funny side of a worrying time, while reminding the reader that Fascism, communism and a second war loom ahead. And I am fascinated by the 1930s, not only because they mirror our time but because they were one of the great turning points of history. Even in England society was poised on a knife edge. Extremists were battling for control. Nazi power was swallowing up Europe and yet the bright young things still lived as if there was no tomorrow.
Winspear: The 1930s offer so much for the writer, with those of one station in society barely affected by the economic woes of Britain at the time, and another living in the most dreadful conditions--yet it was also a great age of house-building in Britain, and you started to see a middle class (as we know it today) emerging. You’ve done well to use humor in your novels, Rhys, because that British sense of humor has brought the country through some terrible times. Though she has many very heart-wrenching memories of the war, some of my mother’s funniest stories are of things people said to buoy each other along during the Blitz.
Bowen: Do you ever get letters saying that it was unbelievable to have a female sleuth at that time, when women were largely confined to the home? I get them even more about my Molly Murphy books, that take place in the early 1900s. But even then women were doing extraordinary things--traveling around the world in 74 days, going to the North Pole, and becoming detectives in the NYPD. By the thirties I’m well aware when I’m writing that women were doing amazing things--Amy Johnson was the first person to fly solo from England to Australia, in an open cockpit plane that was literally held together with paper and string.
Winspear: I am more likely to get those sorts of letters from American readers. The experiences of women between the wars were quite different in America, for an assortment of reasons. In fact, the women of Britain who came through the Great War had more in common with the women in America’s south after the Civil War, when women--many of whom were widowed, or would never marry--were left to fend for themselves, running family farms etc. In Britain, women gained an independence during the war that they were not about to give up--though there are definitely gray areas--and they could please themselves, to a certain extent. If they wanted to wear trousers, they could, because who was going to stop them? Women were moving into public life as never before, with a very visible independence--though they had to be responsible for their financial security, which your Lady Georgie knows only too well!!
Bowen: When we compared notes about our writing experience the other day, were you as amazed as I was to find that we work in exactly the same way? We both start a book knowing very little and we work in flat out panic mode for the first fifty pages, convinced that this book will be our first abysmal failure and nobody will read us again. Then by page 50 the story seems to develop a life of its own, doesn’t it? I’m always amazed when characters say things I never expected or the story goes in a direction I never foresaw.
Winspear: I felt quite relieved to know that you have those same fears when you first start out. Yes, the initial 50 pages are terrifying, and I am usually convinced that I will never be able to write another book ever again and that the truth will finally be out! But at some point you “lock” into the story, and it starts going along at a good clip, and if you are interested in your story and excited by it, it soon gathers momentum. But I remember you telling me that when you wrote your first Lady Georgie novel, the opportunity to write something funny really inspired you. There’s a terrific energy in humor, and in creating memorable funny scenes, and I admire you for having created such a delightful character while remaining true to the time.
Rhys Bowen writes the humorous Royal Spyness Mysteries (Naughty in Nice, September, 2011), as well as the Molly Murphy series, (Bless the Bride, March, 2011).
Jacqueline Winspear is the creator of the acclaimed Maisie Dobbs series.

Entrance to the almshouses at Trinity Green, Whitechapel, founded through the benefaction of Captain Henry Mudd of Ratcliff (d. 1692) and built in 1695 by William Ogbourne, master carpenter, for the Corporation of Trinity House. The residents were '28 decayed masters and commanders of ships or the widows of such'. The almshouses are in two facing rows, one storey high, with basements, and a wooden block and bracketed eaves cornice. At the Whitechapel Road end of the building these two rows are linked by a brick wall of convex and concave curves containing iron gates and wrought iron railings. The end of each row of the almshouses terminates on the street with an elevation of two storeys in brick with stone dressings, rusticated angled stone quoins, a modillioned cornice and a central cartouche with an inscription (as seen here). At ground floor there are two windows, blind on the left, but, on the right (as seen here), with flush shutter boxes and stone architraves. Both pairs of windows are decorated with grotesque masks as keystones. Above, in each case, there is a brick niche with a stone architrave set in a gable with a pediment. The ships on the copings are fiberglass replicas of a marble pair carved by Robert Jones (originals in the Museum of London).

The Panny GF2 is so small and light that i have been bringing it everywhere i go. It really opens up alot of photo opportunities, especially street photography. When i used a dslr, people would give me awkward stares and it affects me. With such a small camera, none of this happens...

Typical for my photos now-- Editted in LR3, toned in silver efex.

The Essential Beginner's Guide to Hunting: Hunting 101

The Essential Beginner's Guide to Hunting: Hunting 101

Are you interested in hunting... the outdoors... the thrill of the hunt... and eating the fresh meat with your friends and family?

Do you want to hunt... but don't actually know much about it? If so, then you've found the right book!

Hunting Is As Old As Humanity Itself, And It's Sill As Exciting As Ever

Many people love hunting. The fresh air... the sport... the cool gadgets... and the fresh meat.

Hunting has fed society for thousands of years. Some of the earliest cave paintings depict the great hunts of ancient peoples.

People have always seen hunting as both a necessity and a sport. It's a necessity because people need to eat. And it's a sport because it takes a lot of skill to track down and kill a wild animal.

There’s nothing like the hunt.

In today's modern society many people don’t hunt because we can survive without it.

But all over the world hunting is part of everyday life for many different people.

Here in America, it's become more of a sport... A sport that many people have never tried...

There are few sports like hunting.

Learning to track and kill a wild animal not only takes a lot of skill, but it causes you to respect nature as well.

Also, instead of a trophy, you get to eat fresh, delicious meat as your reward. Hunting is written into our DNA.

Few take on the thrill that's associated with hunting because it seems difficult or cruel to animals. Some people argue that hunting is animal cruelty because we're killing innocent animals for sport. But hunting can actually help keep the ecosystem healthy. When hunting is properly managed, it keeps wildlife balanced. In many places that have outlawed hunting, the ecosystem has been thrown out of balance and the animal population is actually in decline and suffering. So, hunting is not only an exciting sport, but one that actually helps the environment.

Many people also don't partake in hunting because they don't know much about it... Which means you could be missing out on an incredible experience and food.

If you don't really know much about hunting, you could be missing out on a great adventure!

Hunting is very exciting and fulfilling...But many people just don't know the fundamentals of hunting. However, it's not hard to start hunting; you just have to know what you're doing...

Learn all there is to know about hunting with this guide. Things like:

- The History of Hunting: The fascinating story of how hunting evolved into what it is today
- Hunting Evolution: Learn all about hunters of the past and how we got to where we are today
- Gods And Hunting: The intriguing study of how different religions have shaped hunting
- Hunting Around The World: Great insights into hunting in other countries around the globe

- Planning Your Hunting Trip: Have the most fun and bring home the best catch with these great tips

Hunter's Blind Diptych

Hunter's Blind Diptych

A hunter's blind in Buck's Creek at Chatham, MA. This blind has been here for years and is still used. I lived nearby as a kid and would wake up at 5:30 for school hearing the blasting going on in the cold autumn mornings. I always wondered where it was and finally found it. I don't live nearby anymore but it did seem a bit disconcertingly close to nearby houses. I've found several other hunter's blinds in the area and they all have a hidden, secret air to them that seems a bit haunting to me. Maybe I'll do those as diptychs too. June, 2006

Hunting Blind

This hunting blind looked pretty interesting in the early morning light. You can see some guy wires on the left that hold up the enormous comm tower here.

Edit: Hmm, I just looked closely at this one and the guy wires are not visible. (Nice, since they are ugly.) Must have been the other shot.

COVERKING CVC6O2GLR2001 CUSTOM VEHICLE COVER MOSOM PLUS GRAY CLASS 6 1995 - 2002 Land Rover Range Rover SE W/O GRILL GUARD

"The Coverking Mosom PlusTM is a four layer material. The outer two layers are Spunbond Polypropylene, the middle layer is a special micro-porus film and the inside layer is super-soft fabric. The middle layer is an excellent rain barrier, while allowing for vapors to pass through. The special cotton flock inner layer pampers the most delicate paint finish. It is a great choice for all-around car cover use, suggested for most conditions except extreme sun, snow or ice. Mosom PlusTM is a non-woven material, so in the unlikely event a rip occurs in the materlial, it will not run."

Toyota Supra

Toyota Supra

n 1981, Toyota completely redesigned the Celica Supra as well as the entire Celica lineup. In Japan, they were known as Celica XX, but everywhere else the Celica Supra name was used. Still being based around the Celica platform, there were several key differences, most notably the design of the front end and fully retractable pop-up headlights. Other differences would be the inline-6 still present in the Supra instead of the inline-4 as well as an increase in length and wheelbase to conform with the overall larger engine. Toyota's continued market competition with Nissan is shown by the Supra's use of a rear hatch sun shade to avoid the louvres popularly associated with the Z car. Due to an increase in the Supra's width, it was no longer regarded as a "compact" under Japanese dimension regulations.

Doors/Windows Day 5 - The Windowshade

Doors/Windows Day 5 - The Windowshade

We live in a small town. We have no front lawn and the south side of our house, which was built sometime in the early 1870s, sits right up against the sidewalk.

Now I like not having a front lawn to care for, but being right on the sidewalk, people walk right past our front windows quite frequently. So we obviously need shades that provide privacy while still allowing ample light through - particularly during the shorter days of winter.

What we've found is a nice open weave rattan-type roller shade that lets plenty of light in during the day, but gives us plenty of privacy all the same.

Not to mention they throw a nice shadow on objects you happen to hang in front of the window.

Window treatments, or, I am so domestic.

Window treatments, or, I am so domestic.

We had these awful room darkening roller shades that were dark blue (?!) and were totally ripped to pieces. Now we've got these fancy-pants replacements that I like much much better.

My husband installed these for me as he is awesome!

Metal/Glass assignment

Metal/Glass assignment

Size: 8x10 at 180 PPI
Traditional photography

I ended up taking photos of the front of a Rolls Royce with a reflection of 2 Lamborghinis, a bottle, cracked glass table, and a rim. All of these are either metal/glass. The reflection on the Rolls Royce was taken outside with natural light, and I wanted the Lamborghinis on the sides of the Rolls Royce emblem, but they weren’t seperated enouhg, so you get at least half of each car. On the bottle, I put it ouside on a table at sunset, using a little faster shutter speed than normal at that time, to capture a darker photo, and from there, I adjusted levels, contrast, to make it the way it is. The third photo is of a shattered glass table, with shattered glass in the middle of 1 plate of glass on both side to get the shattered glass look without having to glue it together. I placed my camera on the ground, and took the photo straight up, and came out with this. I thought the straight white background was quite boring, so I played around the with the levels and contrast, and the bi-color came well. The last photo is of the rim of a car, and I focused on about 1/4 of the rim to get detail, and a little bit of reflection. I used a slow shutter speed than normal to capture the details on and around the rim. I cropped it, and edited the photo.

Famicom disk system

Famicom disk system

Here is the inner workings of the famicom disk system. The diskdrive with the rubberbelt that likes to snap, the game data extractor ( who looks sucpiciously like mario ), the processing unit ( center right in the picture ), and an early RGB port under the battery compartment ( top centre ). We also find a recycling system that turns broken workers into fuel, a charging station, the "Angry gamer's gravity generator" ( good to have when the console suddenly gets airbourne ), and backup workers. And a nuclear backup powerplant with a cooling system that involves a jumping Luigi, a barrel throwing Donkey Kong, an ice spitting Freeon Leeon, and a submerged Gil who's in charge of the circulation of the coolant. The powerplant also supplies the workers with a healthy cloud of radiation. The radiation also make the workers react with the games' contents. So familiar mutations will occour. In a such a situation you will also get new characters. And a few well known Nintendo characters ( like Funky Kong ) was inspired by mutations like this.
