A ship holder/carrier/launcher frame. It is made of 22mm household water supply copper tubing and fittings (available in all do-it-yourself and plumbing centres). The reinforced rubber webbing is sold for upholstering chairs. I sued plain (non-soldered) fittings so that I could silver solder (braze) the whole structure together for added strength. You can buy pre-soldered fittings which you slot together and simply heat to melt the solder and fiz the joint, easy but not as strong and subject to corrosion.

The Lab Bench

We recently took some Shared-Electron founders-working-in-the-garage pictures, and I realized that the lab bench upon which we were working looked like a messy version of "what should be in a mad scientists lair" kinda photo. Both the Greeks, in the period after Alexander the Great, and the Romans, were fascinated by Egypt and created a host of art works decorated with scenes ostensibly based on Egyptian themes but rendered in a purely Classical style. This bracelet surpassed my dreams! I have been playing with this design idea for some time now and it has finally come together! Many hours of work went into this baby and I am so happy with the results.

The shiny glass lampwork lentil beads are handmade by me in the flame. Beautiful combinations of sage, lime and emerald green along with caramel and chocolate. How can you go wrong with those colors? :)

Each glass bead has been wrapped with beautiful sparkling fall colored faceted tourmaline rondelles on one side and wrapped coils along the other side. Each bead has been completely surrounded by intricate coils of solid sterling silver in a fine gauge. All silver has been oxidized to give a more mysterious look.

Each glass bead is connected to a beautiful barrel shaped deep rich faceted carnelian nugget. Clustered between each alternating glass bead and carnelian bead are gorgeous sparkling lime green chalcedony faceted briolettes and stunning faceted hessonite briolettes.

Each of the briolettes have been wrapped on hand forged sterling headpins. I love the rich colors and the clusters in this piece. The clasp is a very pretty solid sterling silver heart toggle clasp.

I Got a Bike!

The Story of the Bike
So, a few weeks ago, I decided I wanted to get a bike. I haven't had one in years (left it behind in one of our many moves), but I thought it would be good exercise and I might save some money on gas. I asked my buddies at the Salvation Army if they had any bikes, and they told me to come in the next Thursday and they'd hook me up. Sure enough, when I went in on Thursday, they had a woman's ten speed for me! Yay! I took it home, went inside to make dinner, and a few minutes later thought, Oh, I should bring that bike inside until I get a lock for it. I went outside and it was gone. Yup. Stolen. I didn't even get a chance to ride my new purple bike. So I went back to the Salvation Army, and they promised me the next one that came in. Yesterday was my lucky day! I stopped by and they had a spiffy silver bike all ready for me! It didn't have any pedals, so today Mr. Runabout took me to a bike shop and got me some pedals and some other doohickies it needed, including a basket (which doesn't fit, so I'll have to take it back.) After he got it all put together he took a picture of me taking it for a test drive. In his words: "You look like a seven year old on Christmas."

Reed Warbler

This was found more by luck, they have a board walk going out into the Reed beds, so I went along it thinking I might spot a dragonfly.........I didn't!
But at the end of the walk is a ruff hide overlooking an open section of the reeds.
Whilst looking out over the reeds we spotted right below the window of the hide this nest. As in the next capture you can see she has a young chick that looks less than a day old, might of hatched that morning.
I don't know much about reed warblers but there didn't seem to a male about to help, because this female was having to try and brood the young and then go off and find food on her own.

Whether it was the left over egg shell, but I could see a egg in the nest so maybe there is another young to come.
Even the wardens on site didn't know the nest was there, so hopefully they'll put some signs up to keep people extra quiet while she tries to raise the young.

I know I got the pictures......but if it was me I'd shut the walk down until they've fledged, maybe put a camera up if possible and let people watch from the visitor centre.

Reed

On one of my long-distance walks (35 km) I brought my camera and took it out only one time that day, during a break. I loved the reed in the water and the clouds in the sky.

It's a day at the Fair for Gwen and little Kingston!! 1/1

The two spent the afternoon at the Italian Feast/Fair of “San Gennaro” - 1651 N. Highland Ave in Hollywood. That's me with a cool breeze blowing

Parade this year was fantastic. This was the fist time I wore gloves with an outfit. These are also the highest heels I had worn. They are 4" on a 1" platform. I bought them at Payless, I was actually going to get a pair of silver gladiator flats when I saw these. They fit, they stayed on, and they were comfortable; it was a great find.

I can hardly wait for next year.

The recipe for this photo was: A few tweaks in Lightroom then it was off to CS4 where I used Silver Efex pro to do the b&w conversion. To finish up I ran Totally Rad Dirty Pictures to add the texture.

Barbara Jean Lunsford Pryor, Wife of David Hampton Pryor, 39th Governor (1975-1979): Barbara Pryor wore an emerald green, floor-length gown of silk chiffon with shoes dyed to match to the inaugural ball. The shirred bodice features a deep V-neck in both the front and back. The bishop sleeves are sheer and cuffed at the wrist. The full skirt is gathered in a waistline that is higher in the front and lower in the back. A green satin ribbon tied in a bow accents the waist. The dress, designed by the House of Richilene in New York, gives a bell-shaped silhouette.
Celia Alta Haskins Faubus, Wife of Orval Eugene Faubus, 36th Governor (1955-1967): Mrs. Faubus wore a floor length, white satin gown to the inaugural ball. The fitted camisole-style bodice features wide shoulder straps and extends below the waistline. A tucked-satin insert yields an empire effect. Black thread embroiders the bodice and it is encrusted with pearls and rhinestones. A bell shaped skirt gives the effect of an hourglass silhouette. White kid sandals with pearl buckles, formal length white kid gloves, and a rhinestone necklace and earrings complete the ensemble.
Margaret Frierson Cherry, Wife of Francis Adams Cherry, 35th Governor (1953-1955): Mrs. Cherry wore a strapless inaugural gown from the Helen of Memphis Shop in Memphis, Tennessee. Shirred netting accents the top of the dress while the skirt and lower bodice are embroidered with sequins. The bell-shaped skirt is made of double nylon net. She wore a stole of white nylon net, a whited beaded evening bag trimmed with rhinestones, a white lace evening handkerchief with sequins and white kid opera gloves with the gown.
Sarah Anne Phillips McMath, Wife of Sidney Sanders McMath, 34th Governor (1949-1953): Mrs. McMath wore a sleeveless inaugural gown of black velvet with a matching floor-length cape. The fitted bodice is embellished with silver braid and rhinestones and a shirred panel encircles the waist. The circular, floor-length skirt has a train and a soft bustle that is accented by a velvet bow. The ensemble was purchased from Elanor Harris in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Estelle Elise Smith Adkins, Wife of Homer Martin Adkins, 32nd Governor (1941-1945): Mrs. Adkins wore a floor-length, pink silk crepe and lace inaugural gown. The bodice features a V neckline and a dropped waistline in back that rises to a point in the front. The long sleeves fit snuggly. The bell shaped overskirt is made of rose point lace over net. White satin shoes, white kid formal gloves, a pink georgette evening handkerchief and a pearl necklace were worn with the dress.

The term binary code can mean several different things:

* In mathematics, a binary code can refer to a linear code over the finite field F2 = Z/2Z.
* In computing and telecommunication, it is used for any of a variety of methods of coding data, such as sequences of characters, into sequences of groups of bits, including fixed-width words or bytes, and variable-length codes such as Huffman code and arithmetic coding.

In a fixed-width binary code, each letter, digit, or other character, is represented by a sequence of bits of the same length, usually indicated in code tables by the octal, decimal or hexadecimal notation for the value of that sequence of bits interpreted as a binary number.

For representing texts in the Latin alphabet often a fixed width 8-bit code is used. Antwerp's total population is 472,071 (as of 1 January 2008)[1] and its total area is 204.51 km2 (78.96 sq mi), giving a population density of 2,308 inhabitants per km?. The metropolitan area, including the outer commuter zone, covers an area of 1,449 km2 (559 sq mi) with a total of 1,190,769 inhabitants as of 1 January 2008.[2] The nickname of inhabitants of Antwerp is Sinjoren, after the Spanish word sen?or, which means 'mister' or 'gent'. It refers to the leading Spanish noble-men who ruled the city during the 17th century.[3]
Antwerp has long been an important city in the nations of the Benelux both economically and culturally, especially before the Spanish Fury of the Dutch Revolt. It is located on the right bank of the river Scheldt, which is linked to the North Sea by the estuary Westerschelde.

Origin of the name
According to folklore, and as celebrated by the statue in front of the town hall, the city got its name from a legend involving a mythical giant called Antigoon who lived near the river Scheldt. He exacted a toll from those crossing the river, and for those who refused, he severed one of their hands and threw it into the river Scheldt. Eventually, the giant was slain by a young hero named Brabo, who cut off the giant's own hand and flung it into the river. Hence the name Antwerpen, from Dutch hand werpen—akin to Old English hand and wearpan (= to throw), that has changed to today's warp.[4]
In favour of this folk etymology is the fact that hand-cutting was indeed practised in Europe, the right hand of a man who died without issue being cut off and sent to the feudal lord as proof of main-morte. However, John Lothrop Motley argues that Antwerp's name derives from an 't werf (on the wharf).[5] Aan 't werp (at the warp) is also possible. This 'warp' (thrown ground) would be a man made hill, just high enough to remain dry at high tide, whereupon a farm would be built. Another word for werp is pol (hence polders).
The most prevailing theory is that the name originated in the Gallo-Roman period and comes from the Latin antverpia. Antverpia would come from Ante (before) Verpia (deposition, sedimentation), indicating land that forms by deposition in the inside curve of a river. Note that the river Scheldt, before a transition period between 600 to 750, followed a different track. This must have coincided roughly with the current ringway south of the city, situating the city within a former curve of the river.[6]

Pre-1500
Historical Antwerp had its origins in a Gallo-Roman vicus civilization. Excavations carried out in the oldest section near the Scheldt, 1952-1961 (ref. Princeton), produced pottery shards and fragments of glass from mid-2nd century to the end of the 3rd century.
In the 4th century, Antwerp was first named, having been settled by the Germanic Franks.[7] The name was reputed to have been derived from "anda" (at) and "werpum" (wharf).[5]
The Merovingian Antwerp, now fortified, was evangelized by Saint Amand in the 7th century. At the end of the 10th century, the Scheldt became the boundary of the Holy Roman Empire. Antwerp became a margraviate, a border province facing the County of Flanders.
In the 11th century Godfrey of Bouillon was for some years known as the marquis of Antwerp. In the 12th century, Norbert of Xanten established a community of his Premonstratensian canons at St. Michael's Abbey at Caloes. Antwerp was also the headquarters of Edward III during his early negotiations with Jacob van Artevelde, and his son Lionel, the earl of Cambridge, was born there in 1338.

After the silting up of the Zwin and the consequent decline of Bruges, the city of Antwerp, then part of the Duchy of Brabant, became of importance. At the end of the 15th century the foreign trading houses were transferred from Bruges to Antwerp, and the building assigned to the English nation is specifically mentioned in 1510.
Fernand Braudel states that Antwerp became "the center of the entire international economy, something Bruges had never been even at its height."[8] Antwerp was the richest city in Europe at this time.[9] Antwerp's golden age is tightly linked to the "Age of Exploration". Over the first half of the 16th century Antwerp grew to become the second-largest European city north of the Alps by 1560. Many foreign merchants were resident in the city. Francesco Guicciardini, the Venetian envoy, stated that hundreds of ships would pass in a day, and 2,000 carts entered the city each week. Portuguese ships laden with pepper and cinnamon would unload their cargo.

These pretty pieces of glowing white and pale aqua seaglass were found on Marazion Beach opposite St Michael's Mount, near Penzance in Cornwall, UK, where I live. The tide, sand and stones of the ocean have tumbled them smooth, and the chemical changes in the glass caused by the sea water make them appear to glow in the light. I drilled them by hand, making beads. All the 925 sterling silver elements of these earrings are handmade by me, including the spines I threaded the sea glass and the recycled beads on to, which I cold forged in my seaside jewellery studio. After forging they were lightly brushed finished to highlight the textures.
