  • (Camera Casing) The casing is all around your camera, its that plastic body. It protects the camera's iner workings, and also helps keep light away from the film. If your casing is broken, light could be seeping into your camera, and exposing your film!

Merced River and Yosemite Falls

Merced River and Yosemite Falls

I took this shot back in May when we visited Yosemite to see peak waterfall season. After burning off most of the energy we had on the first two days of hiking my wife and I took the time on our last day to enjoy lunch outside by the Merced River (which involved no hiking whatsoever).

We stopped at the swinging bridge along the Merced for lunch and then walked a short ways along its banks to this spot. The water in the river was flowing quickly with all the contributing falls at their peak, so I thought I'd experiment with a long exposure to achieve a smooth glassy texture on the water.

I set up my tripod low by the water to bring the camera to an angle that captured these branches and the full reflection of Yosemite Falls in the background and used an ND400 (9-stop) ND filter to allow for a long exposure. As is sometimes the case using my ND400 filter this shot started off with a red color cast that was a bit tricky to remove - I'm still strling to understand why it only sometimes appears, but I hope to sort out (and eliminate it) one day.

As a side note I think June has been my slowest photographic month since I got my camera - I don't know if its the brown hillsides around here, or the high gas prices keeping me from traveling farther but I'm hoping July is much more successful.

Nikon D40!

Nikon D40!

I just bought a Nikon D40! I am beyond excited!

I took this shot at Best Buy when I was trying out the D40 and D40x cameras on for size. I like that the body is smaller and lighter than the D50, so I should be able to carry it to Disney and parties and such on a smaller camera case, and make good use of it on a regular basis. I'll still carry my SD600 in my purse for daily use, but I am excited for the possibilities this camera will bring--specially as I progress through the 365 day project.

Now I just have to get through the torture of waiting for it to arrive in the mail this week. GRR! I even paid extra for slightly faster shipping because I am THAT excited and insane!
